Bikini   1946

Named after the nuclear test site, Bikini Atoll, the bikini exploded onto the fashion scene in 1946. Invented first by French engineer Louis Réard and designer Jacques Heim, the duo unveiled it at the Piscine Molitor fashion show in Paris. Incidentally, Bikini Atoll was the site of the first hydrogen bomb test.
